Our Adoption Story: Time to head home, or is it?

On Thursday morning, as we sat in our hotel room waiting for a call from Kathie, we had to make a decision. It was time to cancel our return flight for the next morning. We had not yet been cleared through ICPC to return home so we could not get on that plane and leave the state with our little man.

With much frustration we called the airline and cancelled our flight. We waited as long as we could, and finally at noon Rich made the call.  We were both sad, Mitchell was clueless,  the walls of the hotel were closing in around us and our stay in Florida was getting longer by the moment.

As we sat watching daytime television, and watching Mitchell nap, my phone rang. I recognized the phone number and answered "Hey Kathie, are you calling me to tell me we can go home?". She laughed and said "I am!" my next response was one of shock and disbelief "SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!?" Of course she would call just 4 short hours after we cancelled our flight.  Isn't that the way it always works!?

While I was speaking with Kathie, Rich got on the phone with the airlines and rebooked our tickets. Much to our surprise (and relief) we were able to rebook on the same exact flight we had just cancelled, with no cancellation or rebooking fees. The problem? We are on a 7a flight, with a newborn. Who had this bright idea? Oh the things we had to do to be able to leave in just a few short hours...
